Bangkok, Thailand – A Master of Economics student from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Diponegoro University (FEB Undip) has once again achieved success on the international stage by participating in the 18th Aceh International Workshop and Expo on Sustainable Disaster Recovery (AIWEST-DR) 2026, held at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand, from July 22–24, 2026.

At this international conference which brought together academics, researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from various countries Ahmad Aqil Widyantoro, a Master of Economics student at Diponegoro University, collaborated with a multidisciplinary team. The team included Marsha Yoke Nancy, S.Kep., Ns., M.N.Sc. (Lecturer at the Undip Department of Nursing), M. Umar Dani (Undip Nursing Profession student), and Mohammad Pandu Pradana (Undip Master of Marine Science student). This cross-disciplinary collaboration demonstrates Diponegoro University’s commitment to producing comprehensive research capable of addressing various humanitarian challenges in a sustainable manner.

During the event, the team presented findings from a study on psychosocial support for natural disaster survivors in Aceh, utilizing an approach based on “psychospiritual practices.” This approach integrates psychological and spiritual aspects into the community’s post-disaster recovery process. The support activities included collective Quran recitation, religious learning sessions, supportive conversations, and various child-centered creative activities. These activities served as mechanisms to aid emotional regulation, strengthen social connections, build resilience, and accelerate the recovery process for disaster-affected communities.

In addition to presenting, Ahmad Aqil Widyantoro and his team attended various scientific sessions as participants, gaining opportunities to discuss ideas, exchange experiences, and expand their academic networks with researchers and practitioners from around the world. This participation provided fresh insights into innovations, best practices, and the latest research findings in the field of sustainable disaster recovery. Participation in AIWEST-DR 2026 serves as tangible proof that Universitas Diponegoro students are capable of contributing to international academic forums through interdisciplinary collaboration. The synergy among the fields of economics, nursing, and marine science is expected to yield more holistic solutions to support disaster mitigation and post-disaster recovery efforts.

Through participation in this international conference, Universitas Diponegoro aims to further strengthen its reputation as a world-class university, enhance the quality of international scientific publications, expand global cooperation networks, and drive the achievement of internationalization indicators and “Superior” accreditation. The involvement of students and faculty in international scientific forums also demonstrates Universitas Diponegoro’s commitment to generating innovations that benefit society while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly in the areas of health, quality education, partnerships, and the development of disaster-resilient communities.
