Nur Shafika, Master’s Student in Economics
Demak, August 14, 2026 – Nur Shafika, a Master’s student in Economics at Diponegoro University, served as the Project Officer for the KMS GENDER FEB UNDIP WAVE (Women’s Advancement & Value Empowerment) initiative. She led a community empowerment project in collaboration with the Kartini Bahari Group in Purworejo Village, Bonang District, Demak Regency.
This activity is part of the KMS GENDER FEB UNDIP WAVE initiative, which aims to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by focusing on the role of women and strengthening the household economies of coastal communities. Embracing the spirit of “Empowered, Creative, and Global-Ready,” the project was designed to foster collaboration between students and the community, aiming to optimize the local economic potential already possessed by the group.
As the Project Officer, Nur Shafika was responsible for coordinating the preparation and execution of the event. Her duties ranged from internal team coordination and planning the activity agenda to communicating and coordinating with community partners. The event began with introductions and presentations covering the SDGs, the role of women, and strategies for strengthening coastal household economies.

The program continued with an introduction to and hands-on practice using food choppers and sealers—tools intended to support the production and packaging of processed fishery products. This support aims to ensure the sustainability of fish processing skills that the Kartini Bahari Group had previously acquired through government-led training programs.
During the discussion session, members of the Kartini Bahari Group shared plans for developing various products using this new equipment, such as *pempek* (fish cakes), meatballs, nuggets, *cilok* (tapioca dumplings), and other processed goods. These plans highlight the potential for expanding women-led economic activities based on fishery products, thereby supporting household economic resilience.
This initiative supports SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by strengthening women’s roles in economic activities; SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by developing productive activities; SDG 1 (No Poverty) by bolstering household economic resilience; and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by transforming fishery resources into value-added products. In her role as Project Officer, Nur Shafika—together with KMS GENDER FEB UNDIP WAVE—strives to build an empowerment approach that focuses not only on knowledge dissemination but also on sustainability, collaboration, and strengthening community capacity. This initiative is envisioned as a form of student contribution toward encouraging coastal women to remain empowered, productive, and capable of creating a broader impact.
